Teenage Pregnancy and the White House

Senator Palin, McCain's newly announced running-mate, has announced that her 17 year old daughter is prego. Surpisingly (sense the sarcasm), McCain has declared that he and his crew were fully aware of the situation prior to their public endorsment of endorsments, in choosing Paulin as his Vice Presidential candidate. Of course you did...how could you not want to compromise your already feeble campaign against Obama? Give me a break. Just as Palin's own pregnancy came as a torrential surprise to her own constituents, this must be quite the blow to your brilliant plan, Mr. McCain. Time will tell what the American public feels regarding this situation. And we all know how forgiving the American public is...especially right-winged conservatives. Personally, I think Ms. Palin needs to be spending more time at home raising her children. She has five of them for heaven sake! What a mess...

Wow. I wholeheartedly disagree. Her daughter is not newly pregnant, she is 5 months along. They dig through every skeleton in every closet befor they make a decision that big. Of course they knew.
Also, I don't think it's fair to say she should be home with her kids. Should women be in politics at all? Or only women without children? They would never say that about a man.
I was feeling sluggish about the Republican nominations until I heard her speak. She is fantastic and I think a fabulous choice for VP.

Well, you're probably right about the prior digging. But I stand by what I said that Sarah Palin belongs home with her children. I am not silly enough to think that all women or all women with children should stay away from politics. Of course not! But we are talking about the white house. Probably one of the most demanding jobs in existence. If her children were a bit older, not facing challenging disabilities, if she had fewer children, or if her existing eldest wasn't facing teenage pregnancy, I might feel differently. But this woman clearly has her hands full. Lets be honest about what her priorities are...and whether or not we would encourage a close friend to attempt what she is attempting. I agree that Palin is a brilliant choice in many ways and most likely an amazing woman, but its all a bit much if you ask me, and goes against my personal family values.
